Leadership Development

Our Steering Committee is an opportunity for passionate and creative members to flex their leadership and organizing skills. We meet once a month to organize events and create programming.

Every year, we send Steering Committee members to NQAPIA's national conference where they commune and train with other Queer API folx across the country.

Supporting our parent organization (NQAPIA) on their campaign to promote acceptance and love in for LGBTQ folx in API families.

 This campaign includes three parts:

  • 9 multilingual Public Service Announcements (PSA) on Asian ethnic television stations and international channels, online and on the air

  • 26 translated resources “Coming Out to API Families: Talking Points for API LGBTQ Youth” that address fundamental questions about sexual orientation and gender-identity for parents and family members

  • A series of international workshops of API parents who love their LGBTQ kids, where they provide culturally receptive peer-support for API families and for young people struggling to come out to their parents

Supporting Legislation that protects LGBTQ and API Immigrants' rights

A social media campaign that celebrates the beauty and diversity of Queer API Bodies.  Many of us have been subjected to  shade, objectification and discrimination due to our unique and beautiful bodies. Colonialism and internalized racial oppression has conditioned some of us to hate our bodies.  This social media campaign is a way for us to re-claim the beauty of the Queer API body.

We encourage all folx to get involved and snap a photo of your beautiful self.  We welcome and celebrate body diversity and all shades of the Queer API community.

LGBTQ Equality Act: will prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender-identity in employment, housing, credit, education, public spaces and services, federally funded programs, and jury service.

Reuniting Families Act: Will update and preserve the current family-based immigration system to keep families together and reduce visa backlogs.  It protects same-sex couples when one partner is from a country that does not recognize same-sex marriage, is an asylum grantee, or both are refugees and aim to resettled together.
